Bliss Softening Socks

On the coldest night of the year, our friend Duane Hampton presented my wife and me with blue boxes. From a distance, my first thought was Tiffany. But the boxes were from Bliss, a spa that promises “a completely different approach to skincare.”

I knew of Bliss because my wife, who is responsible for most of the smarter product suggestions on this site, gives Bliss gift certificates at the holidays. Softening Socks? I had no idea. And neither, to my surprise, did my wife.

Beyoncé knows all about them.

“My feet take beatings, so I try to take care of them,” she’s said. “Softening Socks from Bliss Spa are like a sophisticated version of putting your feet in Vaseline and sleeping in socks. It really helps!”

If they’re good enough for Beyoncé — who has a net worth of $450 million and access to the best of everything — they’re plenty good enough for us. So we put them on before we went to sleep and wore them all night.

The sensation is weird. “Like a slimy bag on your foot,” someone wrote on Amazon.

These socks are, as another commenter put it, “a spa treatment while you sleep.”

What’s the tech? The bottoms are filled with mineral oil-infused gel and require modest care: hand wash, hang dry. After 50 washings, I’m told, the socks are shot. True, these socks are not cheap. (Duane, I am not worthy!) But they transformed feet chapped and cracked by 5-mile walks to the grocery through snow drifts taller than the small person — overnight. And these socks, I’ve read, are helpful in all seasons: “I use them once a week or so to keep my heels from getting all rough from summer sandal wear.”

At-home pedicures. A product that really does “hydrate hardened hoofs.” A good deal for those who want — you knew this was coming — to put their best feet forward.
