Thermal Insulation Fingerless Texting Gloves with Mitten Cover

We used our first cell phones for a decade. My wife’s had an antenna. Mine was thick as a brownie. Both had a few phone numbers taped on the back: our “five.”

We were content.

My wife recently changed jobs. Among the questions she was asked: “What would you like — a Blackberry or iPhone?” (Many reasons to love this job and this executive, but this isn’t the least.) No fool she. ‘iPhone,” she replied.

I can’t reconstruct my thinking, but it suddenly became clear to me: I needed one too.

For me, it’s just a phone. Though I FaceTime with the kid and, when the bus hits heavy traffic, I have been known to whip through a few levels of Angry Birds.

My wife? Another story. Because her sainted executive travels a lot, she texts. Has discovered the best flight trackers. And the scanner. And, and, and…

One problem: It was 16 degrees yesterday. When Himself texts and she’s out of the office, she has to take off her gloves to use the touch-sensitive — that is: heat-sensitive — screen.

She is not unique. Which is why Fingerless Texting Gloves are the hottest fashion item of the winter. [To buy Alki’i Thermal Insulation Fingerless Texting Gloves with Mitten Cover in black or brown from Amazon, click here.]

Texting gloves are available at every price and color. I like these because they’re thermal, thus likely to keep your hand warmer in frigid weather. And the mitten cover is generous — you won’t rip a nail off struggling to answer your phone.

But perhaps you don’t wish to be a fashion lemming. Perhaps you’re a do-it-yourselfer. Or want something all your own to brag about.

In which case: You can make your own texting gloves at very modest expense. Just take old gloves and sew patterns onto the fingertips using conductive fiber thread. Like this:

Or is that a commercial for the thermal fingerless gloves?
