The Weighted Blanket

Another winter of our discontent is coming on. By now we know the stages. Start with the Anxiety Plague. Add ice. Take nightly. Feel worse. There are some cures. Or at least palliatives. Some are spiritual. Some are cultural. I’ve heard that being in love and opening yourself up to that glory and pain doesn’t suck. There’s also the weighted blanket.

The weighted blanket entered my world as anecdote.

“My kid sleeps through the night.”

“If I could wrap myself in it and wear it while I work, I would.”

“For the first time in months, I don’t wake up at 5 AM.”

The idea is simple: if you sleep under a heavier blanket, you feel comforted. Cuddled. Even returned to the womb. And… you sleep.

I know. Sounds woo-woo. So read Positive Effects of a Weighted Blanket on Insomnia.

Buying a weighted blanket isn’t a matter of simple esthetics. What blanket to buy? Here’s a formula: take 10% of your body weight, then add 1 pound for the right blanket weight. Not recommended for pregnant women or small children. Size: the weighted blanket is smaller than the same size regular blanket because it is designed to cover your body rather than your bed.

For kids and adults under 110 pounds: a 36″ x 48″ 4-pound Heavy Blanket, Reversible, Microfiber. [To buy it from Amazon, click here.]

For 110-150 pound adults: a 48″ X 72″ 12-pound Weighted Blanket, Fits Full/Twin Size Bed. [To buy it from Amazon, click here.]

For 100-160 pound adults: a 60″ x 80″ 15-pound Weighted Blanket with Removable Cotton Duvet Cover. [To buy it from Amazon, click here.]

For 180-220 pound adults: 60″ x 80″ 20-pound Weighted Blanket, for a Queen/King Bed.[To buy it from Amazon, click here.]
